I am delighted to announce that my guest next Tuesday will be Rita Meher, Executive Director of Tasveer! We will be live on air on Desi1250am as well as live on Facebook on the Facebook page of Tahmina Talks Immigration on Tuesday September 19th 2017 at 10am PST!
Rita Meher’s vision and endeavors led to South Asian cultural issues being raised and elevated through Tasveer’s Seattle South Asian Film Festival set to launch on October 6th. In addition to SSAFF, Tasveer has many other events including the revered Yoni ki Baat.
As a filmmaker and one of the founders of Tasveer for more than 15 years, Rita Meher works to strengthen communities and dispel negative perceptions of South Asians by curating thought-provoking events in a post-9/11 world. Through Tasveer, she brings greater understanding on commonly misunderstood issues in South Asian countries, creates a strong platform for marginalized voices and sparks dialogue on taboo issues among local South Asian communities. Tasveer’s mission is to inspire social change through thought-provoking South Asian films, art, and storytelling.
Before diving full-time into Tasveer in 2012, she worked as a freelance video producer and editor in various local TV stations. Meher edited the award-winning Bangladeshi documentary THREADS and made her first short film, CITIZENSHIP101, based on her own immigrant experience.
Rita was named Seattle Globalist of the Year in 2015, and a Rising Star by Northwest Asian Weekly. Meher was born and brought up in India, and lived in Japan for 4 years. She is fluent in Hindi, Odiya, and Japanese.
Rita will be on my talk show “Tahmina Talks Immigration” at 10am PST on Tuesday September 19th on Desi 1250am. If you have questions, you are welcome to email me in advance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A huge thank you to Rita for taking time out of her busy schedule for joining me to talk Tasveer, Immigration and much more about the upcoming film festival!
